Slovak Costume Designer Ján Kocman Nominated for a BAFTA 2025 Award for The Tattooist of Auschwitz

We are pleased to announce that Slovak costume designer Ján Kocman has been nominated for a BAFTA 2025 award in the Costume Design category for The Tattooist of Auschwitz. This nomination recognizes his meticulous work, which brought authenticity and depth to this powerful and emotional story. It is also a testament to his craftsmanship and dedication, with his work being acknowledged on an international level.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a six-part television series based on the international bestselling novel The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris. The series tells the story of Lale Sokolov (Jonah Hauer-King), a Slovakian Jew who was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942. Shortly after his arrival, Lale was made a tattooist, charged with marking identification numbers on fellow prisoners’ arms. His story of survival and his love for Gita (Anna Próchniak), whom he met when tattooing her prisoner number, is a testament to courage, hope, and love in the darkest moments of human history.

Filming for this historical and emotional drama took place in the surroundings of Bratislava, Slovakia. The international production spent 22 million euros on the project, making it one of the largest investments in the audiovisual industry in Slovakia to date. Over the course of nearly half a year, several Slovak filmmakers contributed to the preparation and production of the series. The production was serviced by Spectral, under the management of Line Producer Dalibor Vašica.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz premiered on Sky and Peacock on May 2, 2024. The series is a production of Synchronicity Films.
